Anyone that volunteered a patch that allowed OpenJDK6 to be built with Visual Studio 2010 (or any free version of Visual Studio)
would be welcome. I know it's not a trivial amount of work, but for a Windows guru, might not be that hard.
Just not a priority for me.
OpenJDK6 stuck with VS2003 because that was what worked at the time it was back ported from OpenJDK7, back around jdk7b22.
The OpenJDK7 sources could be mined for the VS2010 changes: http://hg.openjdk.java.net/jdk7/jdk7/jdk/log?rev=VS2010
