Can't move files to .trash

By coincidence (?) I just saw an update to an internal wiki page that 
says to do:

chmod 77 .trash

and that fixed it.

Still very tedious deleting things this way - particular when a messed 
up rsync/scp dumps a ton of files in your top-level directory. :(
