Speaking as someone who maintains 8u in a Linux distribution, we would
love to use official source bundles for 8u.
Most packaging systems in Linux start from an upstream tarball (what
OpenJDK calls source bundled) [1][2][3] to build and package the
software. If an upstream project, like OpenJDK, does not publish
official source bundles, then we have to create it manually, which is
error prone and can be different from what others may see when they
clone the repositories. It also makes it harder to verify authenticity
of source bundles in the distribution.
In other words, please do consider publishing source bundles for 8u!
Thanks,
Omair
