Thanks for fixing this long-standing bug, it is indeed a day-one issue.

I don't think I can act as an official reviewer, however as the author
of the code I am very happy with the fix as it is (with 80-char line
limit).
Thanks also for the detailed explanation - all my questions were
answered before they arose :)
