[8u] Request for Approval: 8154210: Zero: Better byte behaviour

Hi,

Please approve the following Zero-only change for jdk8u. The current
tree for JDK 8 is broken for a Zero JVM build[1]. The failure is caused
by the April CPU patches.

The fix for this went into 9 already[2] and the JDK 8 is essentially
the same patch. Only whitespace differences make the JDK 9 patch not
apply.
