Subject: Review request for JMC-407: Removing unnecessary swing initialization code

Hi all,

Please review this fix to remove a workaround from olde… It would be great if 
someone with a Linux system/GTK could verify that this doesn’t mess anything 
up. ;)

(I also took the liberty of removing an unnecessary import in an unrelated 
file.)
