That thread wound up resuming where an earlier thread on a different set
of issues (#MutableConfigurations, #LazyConfigurationAndInstantiation,
#CyclicDependences, and #DiscardableModules) [1] tailed off.  Let's call
this general topic #LayerPrimitives; I'll add it to the list.
