Project Proposal: More New I/O APIs for the Java Platform

In accordance with the OpenJDK guidelines for projects [1], I hereby 
propose an OpenJDK project "More New I/O APIs for the Java Platform" 
(NIO.2) to host the development of the next phase of the New I/O APIs 
being defined by JSR 203 as well as related work in the JDK. The next 
phase of the New I/O APIs is intended to cover the completion of the 
socket-channel API, a new filesystem interface, and an API for 
asynchronous access to both sockets and files. I propose this project be 
sponsored by the Core Libraries Group [2] and that I be the initial 
moderator of the project.
