I saw this once too and found there is a bug open on it (7067691). I
think the issue is that the Loggers are being GC'ed with the result that
getLogger returns null causing the failure you observed. It's not
Solaris specific but rather it's just that the loggers were GC'ed at the
wrong time. It's possible that some of the other logging tests need to
be fixed for the same issue.
