If memory serves, Joe Darcy and the Project Coin expert group performed
research on a large body of Java code to judge the impact/risk of some PC
changes - it's mentioned, for example, in this document

(search for "corpus"). Perhaps Joe or one of the people involved in Project
Coin could say whether there is any existing infrastructure to perform
further ad-hoc searches on the corpus.

PS - It would be great if this were standard practice in these discussions
- perhaps someone can sponsor a summer of code project to set it up.
Doesn't seem like rocket science...
