Hi list, hi Tom,
I have seen the request to participate with a talk at the 'Free Java
Meeting' at FOSDEM'08[0]. I would like to do so and present JaLiMo which
is a project which aims to bring a Java(-like) environment to
Linux-based Mobile devices (hence the name :) ). Mobile in the sense of
mobile phones, PDAs and internet tablets/UMPC.
What we mainly do is packaging, building and maintaining the various
projects out there: JamVM, Cacao, GNU Classpath,MIDPath, SWT,
java-gnome. Other runtimes as Kaffe and of course Hotspot and PhoneME as
well as the IcedTea/OpenJDK libraries are planned for the future.
Sometimes we develop some extension to make a library better fit into
their. E.g. we have patched java-gnome & SWT to have Maemo-style menus
(so called hildonization).
The currently targeted platforms are the Maemo and OpenMoko platform.
Since OpenMoko is a OpenEmbedded-built distribution and we provide build
recipes for that, every other distribution can benefit from our work,
too. Oh, yes: Everything is free and open-source software. :)
Since a picture say more than 1000 words, let us enter screenshot talk: ;)

You have probably seen things like that in the past every here and then.
Jalimo is about to make that sustainable not just sporadic.
What matters for us additionally is that you should not only be able to
download the finished binary packages but you should also be able to
reproduce them by compiling everything on your own.
Further information about the project can be found at our website at
jalimo.org.
Regards
Robert Schuster
PS: Jalimo needs volunteers. :)
