I saw no documentation about how to do this, but I figured it out. On
Fedora 7, I ran as root:
update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/javac javac
/usr/lib/jvm/java-icedtea/bin/javac 2000 --slave /usr/lib/jvm/java
java_sdk /usr/lib/jvm/java-icedtea --slave /usr/bin/javadoc javadoc
/usr/lib/jvm/java-icedtea/bin/javadoc --slave /usr/bin/javah javah
/usr/lib/jvm/java-icedtea/bin/javah --slave /usr/bin/jar jar
/usr/lib/jvm/java-icedtea/bin/jar --slave /usr/bin/jarsigner jarsigner
/usr/lib/jvm/java-icedtea/bin/jarsigner --slave /usr/bin/appletviewer
appletviewer /usr/lib/jvm/java-icedtea/bin/appletviewer --slave
/usr/bin/rmic rmic /usr/lib/jvm/java-icedtea/bin/rmic
and
update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/java java
/usr/lib/jvm/java-icedtea/bin/java 2000 --slave /usr/lib/jvm/jre jre
/usr/lib/jvm/java-icedtea --slave /usr/bin/keytool keytool
/usr/lib/jvm/java-icedtea/bin/keytool --slave /usr/bin/rmiregistry
rmiregistry /usr/lib/jvm/java-icedtea/bin/rmiregistry
That will set an IcedTea build located at /usr/lib/jvm/java-icedtea (the
location preferred by the configure script) as the system JDK.
It might be useful to put this in the INSTALL file.
