I think the alsa dependency isn't strictly necessary, although I haven't
looked into how to easily disable it. If you are looking for something
like IcedTea that compiles on OS X then take a looks at SoyLatte
http://landonf.bikemonkey.org/static/soylatte/
Unfortunately it isn't free software since it is currently distributed
under the JRL (so you won't be able to get the sources or redistribute
unless you accept those proprietary terms for the moment). Landon would
like to distribute under the GPL to make cooperation easier with OpenJDK
based projects like IcedTea, but till now Sun has not been able to grant
him those rights.
