I have been testing today using jamvm + 6b23~pre10-0ubuntu5 + icedtea-web and
the audio plays smooth for me using Ubuntu Oneiric.

Can you try running runescape using the latest icedtea-6 version built from the
latest source,
http://icedtea.classpath.org/hg/icedtea6
there have been a lot of pulseaudio fixes during the last three months and all
fixed after the IcedTea6 1.10.3  release.
