Thanks for the great set of details! It really helped trying to pinpoint
the problem.

As mentioned in the README, thermostat needs either an /etc/os-release
file (which is available in a number of newer distributions), or the
lsb_release program. From what I can tell looking at the details, you
have neither. Could you please retry after installing the package which
provides lsb_release for your distribution?
