Do not worry, the main thing is, that there is not just one person deciding and there is some sort of revision or "logos" on that matter. As long there is a sensible reason for every translation and it is understandable by a reader it is going to be fine.

I do not use any particular localization software. Just a simple plain text editor with some syntax highlighting and spell checking: Notepad++. ;) It is probably most convenient to stick to plain text (as long as the format supports comments) because there is no need to do converting. This way only one source file has to be handled. I will use Eclipse when I am going to be ready to build icedtea-web for Windows.
With regards to language tools, I use some dictionaries (http://www.pons.eu, http://www.dict.cc, http://www.duden.de, http://sjp.pwn.pl), automatic translators like Google Translator and Altavista's Babelfish (now Bing Translator), and of course http://www.open-tran.eu. They all come in handy, so I do not know whether there is some software that works really well. As you know, automated translations may be quite good but they are still far from perfect, hence I cannot image some software being really a benefit.
Just as a side note: Maybe the guys at MS used translation software in order to be fast? ;)
Thank you for your table. Obviously, I have missed some typos. I have fixed them. I have put my reply into column F.
Regards,
Jacob
