So, I will have to wait until later for JetBrains to address this...

In the meantime, I am not blocked, just inconvenienced. The workaround is

   1. mvn package
      - This seems to bypass the IntelliJ build so I don't get the compile
      error
      2. Invoke Run from Project Explorer
      - target/laboratory.jar
      - as built using the maven shade plugin

Anyway, requiring "--enable-preview" at this point in Project Loom has
caused some minor inconvenience with IntelliJ IDEA. In particular, when I
want to test different classes, I have to edit the pom.xml to change the
<mainClass></mainClass>.

The problem did not actually happen on the Application Run Configuration,
it happens on the IntelliJ Java Compiler Settings.

18JDK is not yet released, the support of 18JDK (preview) will appear only
in 2022.1.
