OT - Selecting a Mac for development

Hi All,

I have been following this list for a long time so figure this is a great
place to ask.

I'm trying to get a new computer for Java/Scala development to replace an
old iMac. I would like to get a laptop but they are a bit pricey so I'd
consider and iMac or Mini. Two questions to help narrow my selection.

1. Is 8GB memory ok or do you recommend 16?
2. Is an SSD drive like on the Macbook Pro a big advantage for compilation
over an iMac or Mini?
