Any ideas when/if these changes will be merged into jdk master branch?

As stated in the first paragraph of the Mobile project page. We have no plans to merge
the Mobile changes into the mainline JDK 9.0 code base. The reason for this is that we
do not want to slow down or impact JDK 9 development. We will make every attempt to
keep in sync with JDK9 but the plan is to attempt to merge up to some update release
beyond 9.0, hopefully 9.1.

"The goal of this Project <http://openjdk.java.net/projects/index.html> is to focus on porting the JDK to popular mobile platforms such as iOS, Android, and Windows. The short term goal of this project is to support the following enhancements and prepare to integrate these into a future release of JDK 9."
