font color fringes on macOS, not a priority?

I wonder if I can get a dev setup with a quick edit-compile-run cycle, or if the compile step takes a long time. I may give it a shot in the next few days. If I can change C code, and test it in Java without waiting forever, maybe I could get into this.

Do you know if the color fringes are being produced by the Core Text rendering to a bitmap, and not the subsequent OpenGL phase? Core Text is still alive and well on macOS, but OpenGL is deprecated in favor of Metal.
