Oh-well, sorry that this took longer than I anticipated. My plate got 
quite full lately.
I have not completely gone through all the changes yet. There are a few 
changes that I am not sure if they are absolutely necessary.
It's true that the doc description seems inconsistent to the current 
implementation, so we need to address it.
