Sorry to be picky, but that's just not true. When teaching my classes,
probably <20% of them have github accounts or have used it.

& how it works. Now this may be corporate developers, but quite a few
of people who weren't Github people had committed patches or feature
requests upstream - so I'm not sure how we're defining "open-source
developers", I'm just conscious that we should beware the echo
chamber!
