openjdk firefox java plugin, java web start

When we can expect openjdk firefox plugin ?
As we know, there is no appropriate linux amd64 plugin support.
On my ubuntu/amd64 box, I shoud install manually firefox32 to run (sun) java applets. 
For Java web start, there is workaround with installing 32bit java packages. 
What are possible directions regarding this issue(s) ?
To be honest, I am quite confused with Sun decisions. 
There is promotion of javafx technology on one side, and no good solution for core technologies on the other side needed for javafx.
