Applet won't run first time on Safari

As suggested, I've filed this bug with Apple. I've also included the details of the bug report and the bug report number along with the simple applet at http://www.segal.org/java/Hello/. I will keep that version updated with any additions that are made to the official Apple version of the bug report.

It seems that accepting one Java applet may allow others to get past this bug, so it is not just a first run of an applet problem, it is a first run of a first applet problem. Unless you start with the step detailed in the next paragraph you may not see the problem, which might explain how such a basic malfunction could have escaped notice:

In "System Preferences | Java | General | Settings | Delete Files" check "Installed Applications and Applets" in addition to the other two checkboxes checked by default. Then click OK. Sometimes clicking OK doesn't work, and if so one must persevere until it does work to get the computer to the Java-naïve state of a new user.

I have the feeling we will need to hack through several layers of problems to fix all the issues I’ve run across. We’ve done stuff like that in the past.

I'd suggest filing a bug at < <http://bugreporter.apple.com> http://bugreporter.apple.com>, provide a link to an applet which reproduces this with the latest version of the Oracle Java 7 applet plug-in, and clearly state that it's a Safari only problem so that the Safari team can investigate it.
